The newly refurbished tennis club on Cuckfield Recreation Ground was officially reopened on 16th May at a celebration attended by former and current club chairs, residents and supporters.
Guests enjoyed a delicious barbecue, an array of drinks at the bar and homemade food organised by the Tennis Club Committee, as tributes were paid to the many people behind the refurbishment project.
Speaking at the event, new Chair, Rowan Williams praised former Chair, Doug Mower and Martin Shoesmith, Clubhouse Fundraiser for leading the redevelopment from start to finish and said: “Primarily, it’s been Doug who has managed most of the project, and look at it now. It’s no longer freezing in here. It’s warm and comfortable. So, thank you for all your hard work, everyone.”
Thanks, were also given to major donors including the Sussex Community Foundation, Humphrey Price, Gatwick Airport Community Trust and local businesses and members whose fundraising efforts helped make the project possible.
Special recognition was given to Mid Sussex District Council representative Malcolm Avery, architect Peter Liddell, and glazing company owner Scott Cairncross for their support throughout the refurbishment.
Williams added: “We’d also like to thank neighbours of the club for their patience while the work was being carried out as well as the Tennis Club Committee who helped to organise the reopening event, including the BBQ and all the food preparation.”
