An update from Mid Sussex District Council 2024

WE HAVE ADVANCED TO THE NEXT STAGE IN OUR DISTRICT PLAN MAKING PROCESS

Mid Sussex District Council has given the green light to the latest stage of its District Plan, marking a major milestone in the plan-making process. The Regulation 19 submission draft, enhanced with key additions and protections based on community feedback, is now open for public consultation. This achievement is the result of months of hard work and collaboration with various stakeholders, including invaluable input from local communities.

Robert Eggleston, Leader of the Council, emphasised that reaching this stage has been challenging but underscores the hard work and compromises made by everyone involved. The new District Plan aims to protect the local area while meeting the needs of the population, both now and in the future.

The Mid Sussex District Plan 2021-2039 sets out a visionary framework, outlining the vision, strategy, and policy framework for the District until 2039. It also commits to essential policies and environmental protections for climate change and biodiversity in all new developments.

1st Cuckfield Cubs support local people

The 1st Cuckfield Cubs were the first in the region to take on the Foodbox Challenge to support local people who needed the services of the Foodbank to stop them from being hungry this Christmas.
The idea was that teams of boys and girls collected enough dried and tinned food as recommended by Haywards Heath Foodbank to fill a large cardboard box. But each item had to be earned, by doing a good deed or a kindness. The boys and girls took on the challenge and filled boxes by washing up, making beds, emptying bins and tidying their bedrooms. Cub Section Leader said; “The Cubs were really excited to take part and earned the contents of the boxes by being helpful. Our motto was to do our best and I am really proud of the way they met the challenge.”

Susan Osborne, who is a volunteer and Foodbank Trustee, presented sew-on badges to each Cub and congratulated them all for their efforts. She said; “Based on their enthusiasm we were expecting great things and they didn’t disappoint. Many families will benefit from their kindness and now we know how successful it can be, we will be looking to roll out the idea across Mid Sussex to other cub and scout groups in the new year.”

1st Cuckfield Cubs meet at the scout hut on Stocklands Close, Cuckfield every Tuesday evening during term time, between 6.45pm to 8.15pm.

2023's Santa run a success in Cuckfield

The Independent State of Cuckfield (ISOC) teamed up with Mid Sussex Round Table for the third year in a row to bring Santa to the streets of Cuckfield in December.
Over two consecutive evenings, Santa visited most of the village on his musical sleigh, greeting all the good children with a cheery smile and festive spirit - raising over £1,000 for local causes in the process. Organiser, and village resident, Gareth Nelson said, “As ex-members of Round Table, Steve Wilcock and I had supported the Christmas collections in and around Burgess Hill for many years. We approached Round Table in 2021 to see if we could organise the same in Cuckfield with the support of the ISOC. We were delighted that Mid Sussex Round Table agreed. Now in its third year, the event has become a popular annual activity which we hope will continue for many years to come. It is truly wonderful to see the smiles on the faces of children and adults alike. We’d like to thank Mid Sussex Round Table and the ISOC for their continued support and the whole community for their generosity.”
