My name is Islay and I am 13. When I was little, I always wanted to have long hair and felt it was a way to show my personality.

I grew my hair for seven years and said I would never cut it, but when I heard about Little Princess Trust, I began to think again. What it would be like to lose all your hair to cancer treatment? It must be devastating. When I understood that it is a reality for some people, I made my final decision to donate my hair. Little Princess Trust hand-makes wigs from real hair. It was a very nerve-wracking experience but it felt really good to know I could make a difference to someone.

In the future I am hoping to grow my hair again and then cut it all to enable me to support another child who has been affected by cancer.

Cuckfield estate agent Richard Butler started cycling in 2014. He wanted to increase his overall fitness but also was keen to ultimately take on a personal challenge.

During this time Richard’s father had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease for a number of years. It was at this juncture in his life that he decided to begin training for the London to Paris bike ride in aid of Parkinson’s UK. On the 15th September 2019 Richard completed the cycle ride and in the process managed to raise £4,200 for the charity.

No.1 Broad Street opened in April 2019 and is headed up by the legendary Johnny Stanford, who has a flair for British cuisine and creating some of the finest dishes that you are ever likely to try in the county.

Johnny’s background right after catering college featured Michelin star restaurants all the way, and he recently finished a long stint at The Pass, South Lodge Hotel as Sous Chef before landing at No.1 Broad Street this spring.

He has hand selected a team of young chefs that are dedicated to delivering perfectly cooked seasonal dishes. They are currently putting together autumn and winter menus using seasonal red deer, treacle cured salmon, scallops and Scottish beef, paired with delicious blackberries, cauliflower, chestnuts and wild mushrooms to name but a few complementary ingredients.

‘Creative cooking’ are the buzz words around the kitchen right now… new ideas, fresh seasonal produce + creative talent = amazing dishes!
