Now that we are well into summer, our thoughts are now to moving towards the upcoming mayoral elections, which will take place on Friday 15th October. For those new to the village, the mayoral elections are run each year by the Independent State of Cuckfield (ISOC). The rules of the election are pretty straightforward being, whoever raises the most money wins.

The election itself has been running since the 1960s, based on a simple system that now appears to have been adopted by many of the major democracies around the world. Just remember where you saw it first!

On a more serious point, all of the money raised goes to towards helping local causes chosen by the Mayor and the ISOC committee. This year alone, ISOC has helped a long list of organisations including the Cuckoo Choir, Time 4 Children, New England Wood Trust, St Barnabas Hospice, Mid Sussex Community Garden, Holy Trinity School, Cuckfield Playgroup, the Singing Allsorts, Next Step Nursery, Orchard House, Cuckfield Scouts, Holy Trinity Church, The Cuckfield Society, Cuckfield Cosmos, Cuckfield Brownies, Cuckfield and Lindfield Inner Wheel and the BPM dance academy.

There is still plenty of time to throw your hat into the ring as a potential candidate. Thus far, no formal candidates have applied for the competition - but by getting involved in one or two events and helping to raise funds you could well be in the running and it could give you an excellent chance of winning!

If you are interested in running for the position please contact Mike Schlup at info@cuckfieldstate.org.

Come on folks, your village needs you!
